Cousins-
First cousins share a grandparent
Second cousins share a great-grandparent
Third cousions share a great-great-grandparent
Fourth cousions share a great-great-great-grandparent
etc.

If two persons share ansestors, one as a grandchild, and the other as a great-grandchild, they relate to each other as first cousins once(one generation) removed

Cousins of older generations (one's parents' first cousins) often are called "aunts" and "uncles" rather than first cousins first-removed
to lower generations, they are called "nices and nephews"

uncle The brother of one's mother or father. The husband of one's aunt.

great-uncle A brother of one's grandparent. Also called granduncle.

great-aunt a sister of one's grandparent. Also called grandaunt.

grandparent A parent of one's mother or father; a grandmother or grandfather.

extended family 1. A family group that consists of parents, children, and other close relatives, often living in close proximity. 2. A group of relatives, such as those of three generations, who live in close geographic proximity rather than under the same roof.
